What a gorgeous winter maternity session at Rock Ledge Ranch! Doing an outdoor maternity session in winter in Colorado Springs is always a brave move since January and February can bring very cold temperatures and unpredictable windy weather. But when Mother Nature cooperates–wow! Luckily for us, the weather was an absolute dream for the day we scheduled. Calm and clear, with gorgeous sunshine. The way the sun filtered through the trees and reflected off the snow was perfect and gave our maternity photos an otherworldly glow that we could only have gotten in winter.
As a family photographer, Rock Ledge Ranch is one of my favorite locations in Colorado Springs. Whether we’re doing maternity or family photos, it never lets me down. I prefer to do outdoor sessions near sunset for the best light, and at Rock Ledge Ranch the setting sun is beautifully diffused through the tall trees. The fact that the land is private and not a crowded spot really helps make for a relaxing session as well. For our winter maternity session, this also meant that although the snow was a few days old, it was mostly untouched in the field and pathways, so the background for our maternity photos was pristine.
