The 5 Best Outdoor Photography Locations in Colorado Springs

Looking for the best places to take pictures in Colorado Springs? I’ve got you covered! We have so many gorgeous and scenic locations for portraits in our area, but as a family photographer there are a few that I highly recommend. After years of experience shooting in this beautiful part of the state, here are my picks for the 5 best outdoor photography locations in Colorado Springs.

Bear Creek Park

This popular park is one of my favorite places for outdoor portraits. It boasts beautiful mature trees (so gorgeous in fall!), a creek and bridge, as well as beautiful sunset mountain views. Bonus: It also has a playground that is great for the kids to play at afterwards.

Rock Ledge Ranch

Another of my favorite locations for family photography is Rock Ledge Ranch. This is a historic site with many native trees, water, animals, open fields, and a barn. There is a small permit fee to do professional photography here, but it’s completely worth the cost to shoot at this private, beautiful property. I often do one mini session event at this location every year.

Ute Valley Park

With its scenic ridge as the backdrop, this is another stunning location for portraits. Timing is everything with this one, since the lighting is pretty bright for most of the day. But if you time your session for right before sunset, you’ll get amazing mountain backdrops behind you without harsh lighting on everyone’s face (of course, if it’s cloudy, this isn’t really a problem)!

Fox Run Park

This makes my list for the 5 best outdoor photography locations in Colorado Springs because of its rolling hills and gorgeous forest vibe. The tall ponderosa pines and other evergreen trees create filtered sunlight for beautiful portraits year-round.

Red Rock Canyon Open Space

It isn’t everywhere that you can get a backdrop like this! The stunning red rocks in the canyon make an incredible backdrop for unique and impactful portraits.
