Fall may get all the attention, but if you ask me, spring family photos are just as pretty! Especially here in Colorado Springs, when it’s finally warming up and you just want to get outside and enjoy all the lovely earth tones!
And speaking of earth tones—how do you choose outfits that will help you stand out while still looking natural and beautiful against your chosen outdoor backdrop? Choosing what to wear for family photos can be tricky, but I have a few tips to share that should help make it a fresh spring breeze!
Tips for Choosing Outfits for Your Spring Family Photos
Embrace Neutral Colors
Stick to muted, neutral color tones. This might sound boring, but I promise, sticking with these color palettes will give your photos a timeless, elevated feel. If you plan to display your photos as framed prints in your home, this also ensures that the colors will work with just about any style of décor. If you want to include bright colors, you absolutely can—accessories are the perfect place to include those fun pops of color. And they will stand out even better when you keep your main colors more neutral.
Make the Solid Choice
My personal favorite way to simplify styling? Choose mostly solid colors and only have 1-2 family members wear a pattern. This keeps your photos interesting and allows you to include a favorite patterned dress or shirt while not allowing the patterns to become too busy or distracting.
Dress to Your Comfort Level
Getting dolled up isn’t for everyone—so don’t feel like you have to do it! While dresses are a wonderful choice for the ladies, so are more casual options like jeans and a favorite top, or pants and a nice blouse. Wear whatever feels most comfortable for you. The only thing I would recommend is to avoid athletic sneakers!
