One of my favorite things about being a Colorado Springs family photographer is developing relationships with so many amazing people. I’ve known this wonderful family for over ten years now. (Kind of can’t believe that even as I write it!) I love doing their photos and watching the kids grow. It is truly so special! Our latest get-together was for a spring family photo session at Bear Creek Park.
I love the colors Mom chose for these springtime family portraits. When choosing colors, it’s always important to take your background into account. While you have ultimate control over this in the studio, when you’re doing an outdoor shoot you’ll be happiest if you work with whatever Mother Nature gives you. I recommended some light pastels as I knew those would go well with the spring greenery, and Mom’s choices were perfect! It’s amazing how much of a difference the right outfit can make.
We chose to do this spring family photo session at Bear Creek Park. This is one of my favorite locations! It has everything you need for a successful outdoor family shoot, including great sunlight, trees, water, and walking paths. (You can check out some of my other favorite locales here.)
The littlest one was a tad grumpy for pictures, but that’s to be expected from a toddler at a photoshoot! There’s a lot going on, and it can feel a little overwhelming for young kids. I just make sure to give the little ones lots of breaks in between shots and keep things positive and fun so they hopefully have a good experience! I’ve got some tips for getting kids to smile for pictures, but there’s never a guarantee, and one of the best things you can do is just to roll with it. Even if your kiddo isn’t feeling super cooperative, trying to force them won’t help anything. Just relax and have fun!
