I sometimes get parents asking if it’s possible to do newborn photos with an “older” newborn. This newborn photography session at my favorite natural light studio in Peyton, Colorado proves that yes, it is definitely possible!
Newborn Photography for “Older” Newborns
This baby girl was 7 weeks old at the time of this newborn photoshoot. Most photographers recommend doing baby pictures with your newborn before they’re 2 weeks old. And while this is a great rule of thumb, it isn’t always an option for parents. Maybe you were so busy with other preparations for baby that you forgot to book your session far enough in advance. Or maybe baby had to stay extra time at the hospital before you could bring your sweet bundle home.
Whatever the reason, don’t feel like it’s too late for newborn photos once your baby has hit the 2-week mark. While we may have to adjust our approach and poses a bit, I’ve found that I’m able to get just as many wonderful photos with older newborns as with brand new babies. They just tend to be awake more!
My Favorite Natural Light Studio
We did this baby girl’s newborn photography session at my favorite natural light studio, Kindle Studios. When I get a request for a new baby photoshoot in a studio versus in-home, Kindle Studios is always my go-to! It features wonderful large windows for dreamy light, plus lovely décor choices of furniture, plants, and wall hangings to make it feel homey.
We chose earth tones for styling and used my favorite pink and green wraps for this little sweetheart. Didn’t her portraits turn out beautifully?
