These sweet friends of mine are expecting their first baby in just a few weeks, and it was such an honor to do these photos for them. Since their family has a cabin in Estes Park and it’s a special place for them we decided to do the session in the surrounding area. In my years as a maternity photographer in Colorado Springs I’ve seen a lot of beautiful places for pregnancy pictures. But I don’t think it gets much better than a maternity session in the mountains!
We chose sunset, of course. No matter how good your equipment is or how talented you are as a photographer, you can’t get great photos without great lighting. (I wrote a whole post about why sunrise and sunset are the perfect time for outdoor photos, so be sure to check it out if you’re wondering what the big deal is!) Personally, that hour before sunset is my very favorite time to capture portraits. And the dreamy glow for this session did not disappoint!
I love it when a family I’m photographing has a vision for their photos. Bonus points if that vision is sentimental and holds special meaning for them! After all, these are your forever memories, and that’s about more than just color and style. Incorporating heirloom items or seeking out a special location that’s already near and dear to your heart are important ways you can personalize your photos and turn them into true treasures.
