When you’re looking for what to do in Colorado Springs, there’s no shortage of ideas. I may be a little biased, but I truly think we’ve got something for everyone here—including the kids! If you’re a family with littles and need some inspiration for keeping the whole family entertained, I’ve got you covered. Here are my top 9 fun things to do with kids in Colorado Springs!
My Favorite Fun Things to Do with Kids in Colorado Springs
1. Garden of the Gods
This is one of Colorado Springs’ most popular destination spots for a reason! Depending on your kids’ ages you can walk, bike, or drive through this gorgeous park and enjoy some of the highlights of Colorado’s amazing scenery. I recommend stopping by the visitor center first to grab some info and a map before you head out. It will help a lot! My personal favorite stop is High Point Overlook, especially at sunset!
2. Cheyenne Mountain Zoo
Animals are pretty much always a hit with kids! The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo provides an incredible experience of animal encounters right on the side of the mountain, so as well as being able to see exotic creatures up close you’ll also get a great view of the city as you’re walking around. Don’t miss the giraffe exhibit at the very first stop of the park, where kids can feed lettuce to the giraffes!
3. Manitou Springs
This cute and cozy town can keep you busy all day as you explore the unique shops, amazing local food options, and souvenirs. Kids particularly love the famous Penny Arcade—it’s an awesome time capsule where you can play all the classic arcade games like Skee-Ball and pinball, plus they have lots of kid-friendly outdoor rides too.
4. Focus on the Family Welcome Center
Parking and admission are both free at this Christian ministry’s welcome center, and there’s plenty to keep the whole family busy. My kids love the toddler play area, giant slide, and soda shop. We’ve even done birthday parties here (also free!)
5. The Broadmoor
This world-renowned resort is nestled in the beauty of Cheyenne Canyon and provides all kinds of fun shops, amazing sweet treats, and restaurants. Plus, the glimpse into old Colorado history makes it even more unique. You will need to pay for parking, but it’s free to walk around.
6. Hikes
No list of kid-friendly activities in the Colorado Springs area would be complete without some suggestions for hikes. Colorado boasts a ton of hiking trails for all ages and skill levels. A few of my favorite hikes to do with kids are Mt. Cutler Trail, Pulpit Rock, and Blodgett Peak Open Space Loop, all of which are relatively short but still beautiful and scenic!
7. The North Pole – Santa’s Workshop
If you’re in the mood for some festive cheer, stop by the North Pole – Santa’s Workshop at the foot of Pike’s Peak, where it’s Christmas all year round. This holiday-themed vintage adventure park is truly magical, with rides for all ages and absolutely beautiful views. This is an online park, so be sure to dress for the weather. You can book online for the whole family (and kids under 2 years old ride free)!
8. Cog Railway
Do your littles love trains? Take a train ride up the mountain on the Cog Railway to experience the breathtaking views at the top of Pike’s Peak. The conductors will point out all the landmarks and wildlife so you don’t miss anything, plus share some great stories and fun historical facts for an unforgettable ride. (You can also drive up if you prefer.)
9. Family Photos
If you’re exploring this list because you’re planning a Colorado Springs family vacation, don’t forget to capitalize on the mountain views with some destination family photos! With the right photographer (ahem), a family photoshoot can become a fun experience in itself, and you’ll always be glad you made sure to capture these memories with your kids.
