I do holiday mini sessions every year for my clients, but this past year, I decided to try something new! I’ve seen the classic red truck Christmas photos floating on Pinterest, and I thought, “Why not give it a shot?!”
I got in contact with someone who owns a vintage red Ford that he rents out for photo purposes, and he had my date available. I feel so lucky that it all worked out!
We even got some snow the week before these winter family photos were scheduled—and the timing ended up being perfect. It was a huge blizzard that dumped over a foot of snow, so if it had come a few days later I would have had to reschedule my mini sessions. As it was, there was still plenty of fresh white snow in the background that really tied the whole look together.
I knew I wanted to decorate the truck bed to make it feel festive, so I did a ton of research and pulled ideas from different photos I saw on social media. Every photographer has their own style, and personally I prefer to keep things simple so the focus is on those beautiful faces! I would much rather have a handful of well-chosen props that really pull their weight, so once I knew what I wanted, a few purchases from the Christmas section at Hobby Lobby did the trick. I got one fake tree that I could string lights on, and a small, potted tree for a little extra variety. The quilt is one I’ve owned for years and use occasionally for photoshoots. It went great with the colors and rustic vibe of the set!
I’m not the only one who loved these classic red truck Christmas photos. They ended up being so popular with my families that I’ve decided to continue offering Red Truck Minis in future years too. Join my email list if you’d like to receive notifications about when they’re available! Can’t wait to see you towards the end of the year for some festive Colorado family photos!
