This beautiful family traveled all the way from Texas for these gorgeous winter maternity photos in Evergreen, Colorado. They knew they wanted lots of snow on the ground, and with the dry conditions we had in Colorado this past January we had to go up to 10,000 feet before we could find the right kind of scenery and guaranteed snow. It was so worth it!
If you’re looking for an incredible snowy setting for your Colorado photoshoot, this is a perfect place! Echo Lake is a beautiful spot and is not too far from Denver, so it’s quite accessible. The winding road leads you to a beautiful trail that surrounds the lake, plus epic mountain views. Usually I choose places a little closer to my home base in Colorado Springs, but this is a great option that’s closer to Denver.
One thing to keep in mind when you’re traveling to higher elevation for that picture-perfect snowy setting is that there tends to be more wind the higher you go. This can make conditions pretty chilly, especially in the winter, but it’s manageable if you dress right and take steps to keep warm. (Or take breaks to warm up between pictures, if, for example, you’re wearing a maternity dress that doesn’t lend itself to layers!)
I actually love how the wind created a lot of movement in mom’s dress and added more drama and interest to the photos. Mom, Dad, and little one were all troopers in the colder weather and our winter maternity photos were a major success!
