I love offering both studio and in-home newborn photography sessions for my clients. I know every family is different, and while for some it’s fun to come to the studio, other parents find it easier to stay home during the first several weeks after welcoming a new baby. Totally understandable! There’s already so much going on, and all you want to do is stay comfy cozy and love on your new little one. And I want you to have that option!
This sweet family, who just moved to Colorado Springs recently, opted for an in-home newborn photography session. It ended up being the perfect way to celebrate the birth of their son and also capture the comfort and beauty of their new home.
Some parents think there’s no way they could do in-home newborn photos because they think their home doesn’t have enough natural light. But I’ve found that this is very rarely the case! When I arrive at the home for a newborn photoshoot, I will assess each room to see which areas have the best lighting. If necessary, I will use a flash stand to fill in shadows, but I try to avoid this as much as possible, simply because natural light aligns best with my style as a photographer. And I hardly ever have to use the flash stand, because most home have at least one room that has decent quality natural light—and that’s all we need!
In the case of this family, their home had a beautiful living room with windows that let in lots of yummy light from outside, so we did the entire session in that one room. In-home newborn photos, even more than studio pictures, really show the story of your family and highlight your love and relationship, so we don’t need much in the way of props or backdrops to make your images special and lovely.
