8 FAQs Answered by Your Colorado Springs Family Photographer

As a Colorado Springs family photographer, I get lots of questions about my newborn and family mini sessions. You are always welcome to reach out with questions, but I thought I would share a few of my more frequently asked questions here. I hope these answers help you plan for your session so you can have the best experience possible!

FAQ 1: How often do you offer family mini sessions?

I offer Colorado Springs mini sessions for families seasonally (usually 3-4 times throughout the year.) Most years this will include Mother’s Day sessions, sunflower sessions (in the summer), fall family mini sessions (in the mountains), and of course my ever-popular Christmas sessions at a local tree farm!

FAQ 2: How do we book our session?

The first step is simply to get in touch with me. Once we settle on a date and time I will send out a personalized booking link so that you can sign your contract and make your deposit. This officially reserves your session in my calendar. I’m so excited for your session!

FAQ 3: What happens if it rains, snows, or there is other inclement weather?

I am no stranger to this living in Colorado! There is always a chance for high wind, rain, or snow, but it doesn’t need to ruin our session. I will keep an eye on the weather forecast and reach out if I think we might need to reschedule. If there is only light rain or snow predicted, there is a good chance we will still be able to do the shoot as planned.

FAQ 4: Should we bring anything to our session?

For families with small kiddos, it’s best to pack a few items for emergencies and to help keep everyone happy! I recommend a small bag that includes some water, snacks, a change of clothes, wipes, and maybe a few bribery items like fruit snacks, marshmallows, or candy. If we are doing a bit of hiking or walking to get to our location, you can also bring a pair of tennis shoes and slip into your outfit shoes when we get there. Otherwise, just bring yourselves and your beautiful smiles!

FAQ 5: When should we schedule family photos?

Because I hold family mini sessions on specific, pre-selected dates throughout the year, the best way to stay in the loop is to subscribe to my email list. That way, you’ll be the first to know and can reach out to reserve a spot!

You can also schedule a full portrait session just for your family—I have more details here.

FAQ 6: Can we bring our dog?

Yes, you can absolutely bring your dog along! Please just let me know ahead of time if Fido will be joining us, as there are some locations where dogs aren’t allowed. If you plan to include your pet, it’s a good idea to bring some treats. And of course, make sure you have a leash and collar for them too.

FAQ 7: When should we schedule newborn photos?

It’s best to reach out and get on my schedule as soon as possible! Newborns make up the majority of my sessions and my calendar tends to book up quickly. I want to make sure you have those memories of your little one, so if you know you’re expecting, get in touch now and let’s get a tentative date circled on the calendar.

FAQ 8: When is the best time to do newborn photos?

I prefer to do newborn sessions when your baby is between 4 and 14 days old. However, if there are other circumstances where we need to do them a little later I can certainly accommodate that!
