5 Questions to Ask Your Newborn Photographer

Hiring a newborn photographer is a big decision. Before hiring someone to capture some of your family’s most precious memories, you’ll want to get to know a bit more about them and their style to see if they are a good fit for you. Here are 5 questions to ask your newborn photographer (and my answers!)

1. How much experience do you have photographing newborns?

I’ve been photographing newborns for about 6 years now. I am very comfortable handling and photographing newborn babies. You can feel confident knowing that your little one is in the hands of a safe, skilled, and experienced newborn photographer when you book with Haili Wright Photography.

2. Do you specialize in posed or lifestyle photography?

I actually love both styles and like to incorporate a bit of both in my sessions. During the first hour or so of your session, I’ll mostly focus on safe and natural poses for your baby. During the last part of your session, we’ll do photos that include other members of the family, and capture more lifestyle-type photos and candid interaction.

3. What if my baby won’t sleep?

This is SUCH a good question! First and foremost, I want your baby’s photo session to be a happy experience. So, if your newborn is having a really tough time settling, I may decide to reschedule rather than forcing the issue. We can’t blame the little one, right?! However, this rarely happens. Almost always, I’m able to get precious photos of awake babies just as easily as if they were sleeping.

4. When should our newborn session take place?

I recommend doing your newborn session within the first 10-14 days of baby’s life. They are usually still very cuddly and sleepy during this time!

5. Where will our newborn session take place?

I conduct all newborn sessions in-home, which means you get to enjoy the newborn photoshoot experience where you’re most comfortable. I do have a mini studio where I keep my equipment, props, and fabrics. You’ll be able to visit before your session and choose which items you’d like to incorporate. On your session day, I’ll bring everything to you!

These 5 questions to ask your newborn photographer should help you decide if a potential photographer is a good fit for you. If you have any other questions, just ask! I’d love to hear from you.
